There is always so much to do in Nevada County, from musical performances (click here to see what’s happening this month at Center for the Arts) to theater to fairs and festivals. This is a sampling of some of the activities that await you this month.
Beerfest & Bluegrass Festival

For the 11th consecutive year, the Village at Northstar comes alive with jams and fresh brews. The whole family is invited to the Beerfest & Bluegrass Festival featuring live music on multiple stages, dozens of local and regional breweries for adults and special activities for kids (or simply the kids at heart).
The hops keep flowing at the Brewmaster’s Dinner the evening of July 2, where Northstar California’s Executive Chef Steve Anderson artfully pairs five courses of seasonally inspired dishes with craft beers. Diners are led through a flavor journey, guided by the brewmaster, in an al fresco setting overlooking the sunset.

Truckee Historic Walking Tour

Historic Downtown Truckee comes alive during this colorful tour which includes stories of railroad barons, lumber mills, ice harvesting, movie stars, and other characters past. Pass by unique shops and restaurants while learning about Truckee’s famous and infamous past. The tour includes architecture, history, stories, fables, and facts.

Truckee Thursdays

From mid-June through August, Thursday night in Downtown Truckee is a special experience for people of all ages – residents, tourists and participants alike.
The event features a food court, artisan vendors, merchant and community displays, children’s activities, live music and a beer garden.
First Friday Art Walk

Downtown Nevada City
The First Friday Art Walk is a celebration of Nevada City’s diverse mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, as well as their wonderfully artistic and creative community. Participating Downtown businesses will be open from 5-9 p.m. and many will host “receptions” with local artists, trunk shows, and/or performances. Many shops are also offering snacks and beverages as well as sales and specials only valid for the event.
There will be live music and theatrical performances at various locations throughout the downtown area. In addition there will be a Youth Arts Showcase featuring Artists between the ages of 4-18 with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses, as well as a “Kids Zone” on York Street with some fun activities and art projects for kids of all ages.

Movies Under the Pines- Stand by Me

Nevada City Film Festival presents Movies Under the Pines (MUTP), an outdoor cinema experience, returns to Pioneer Park and the Nevada County Fairgrounds this summer with screenings of such classics as Wall-E, Beetlejuice, Stand By Me, The NeverEnding Story, Vertigo and The Big Lebowski.
For all films, the gates open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 8:30 p.m. or dusk.
Stand by Me, the coming-of-age drama directed by Rob Reiner and starring Will Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell. Based on Stephen King’s novella The Body tells the story of four boys in a small town in Oregon who go on a hike to find the dead body of a missing child.
Beer, wine, popcorn, and soft drinks available for purchase. Outside food and drink allowed. No outside alcohol. Blankets and low back chairs are suggested.

AirFest 2017 takes to the skies July 7-8 at the Nevada County Airport (KGOO). The nostalgic and romantic Twilight Hangar Party sets the stage for a full day of High Flying Family Fun at one of California’s most beautiful and intimate airports.
The event is fun for the whole family, with fly-bys and displays of all aircraft types along with food, music, and family attractions.
Summer of Love Festival

In 1967 the phrase “Summer of Love” was created to refer to social phenomenon that drew nearly 100,000 young people to downtown San Francisco to “turn on, tune in and drop out.”
In celebration of the 50-year anniversary – KVMR is presenting its “Summer of Love” festival on Saturday, July 8th from 5-10 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Nevada City.
Four Bands will play live music and there will be booths to purchase munchies, drinks and groovy stuff. There will also be a “crash pad” to visit. Musical acts include No Hands Bridge – Folk, Juniper’s Child – Jimi Hendrix Tribute, Love Train – Old School R&B, and Sgt. Funky – Psychedelic Rock.
All are welcome to this family friendly event. Admission is $10 and flower children under 5 years are free.

The Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival is one of the region’s most family-friendly events featuring a breathtaking air show with world-renowned performers.
There is also a Suddenlink STEAM Expo, Family Festival, rides for a cost in military aircraft, free rides for kids on Sunday, July 9 by the EAA Young Eagle’s pilot volunteers, static displays, vendors, a VIP Hospitality Tent, free Speaker Forums, and much more!
Summer Nights in Nevada City

Downtown Nevada City
The Annual Summer Nights in Nevada City celebration, an outdoor festival of art and music, will be held three Wednesday evenings, July 12, 19, and 26, 2017. During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area. There is no admission charge.
The event features free concerts throughout the town; kid friendly fun including bounce houses, face painting, and more; a delicious food court and beer and wine garden in addition to the fabulous restaurants in the area; arts and crafts booths featuring cool, one-of-a-kind gifts designed and produced by local artists and crafters as well as hand-picked out-of-town vendors; a Classic Car Show every week; and exotic music and dance of Troupe Al Ama Belly dancers.

The Sierra Gold Country festival transforms “California’s most beautiful fairgrounds” into a world village complete with eight stages of live music, sustainability workshops, a global Indigenous People’s village, onsite camping and a village marketplace complete with crafts, shopping, dining and foods of the world. Families are encouraged to attend with family-friendly activities and classes to keep kids of all ages enriched and entertained.

This summer, Sierra Stages brings the excitement of the hit musical “Chicago” to Nevada City with an all-local Nevada County production at the historic Nevada Theatre. Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, “Chicago” tells the story of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who murders her lover. Desperate to avoid a conviction, Roxie dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn, to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
“Chicago” is directed by Robert Rossman, with dance direction by George Jayne and music direction by Ken Getz, who will conduct the 16-person onstage band.
Sierra Vintners Wine Trail

Sierra Vintners will be holding their second of three wine trails for 2017 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at nine locations in South Nevada County. Spend the day touring each location and enjoy wonderful wine tastings, delicious food, and enchanting entertainment.
This is the third year that the group is holding three separate trails, as opposed to having one big event as they had for several years, to give wine lovers the opportunity to slow down and experience all of the wineries instead of racing around the county to see as many as possible.
This spring trail will feature Amour Privé, Bear River, Bonitata, Fawnridge, Lone Buffalo, Mt. Vernon, Naggiar, Sierra Knolls, and Viña Castellano. Each winery on the trail has its own personality in both taste and décor, and they all enjoy having the public come to enjoy their wine and hospitality.
The Children’s Festival

The Children’s Festival is a one-day Renaissance Faire for children of all ages. It will be held in Pioneer Park on Friday, July 21st. This year’s festival will include over twenty arts and crafts tables, strolling minstrels, face-painters, a bridge-guarding troll, sword dancing, juggling, medieval fencing, Queen Elizabeth, Pepper the Witch, Penney the Clown, Pyrate Skool, and Claude – the life-sized mechanical dragon. Children of all ages are welcome and costumes are encouraged!
There is a $3 charge per session. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
32nd Annual Sierra Storytelling Festival

Every summer for the last 32-years, the Sierra Storytelling Festival has gathered people together from near and far, among the towering pines and sloping lawns of the historic North Columbia Schoolhouse, to hear the nation’s top tellers share the great range of human experience through artfully told stories.
The Sierra Storytelling Festival is pleased to welcome award-winning international storytellers Muriel Johnson, Kevin Kling, Judith Black, Andy Offutt Irwin, Diane Ferlatte, Johnny Moses for three days of song, dance, poetry, and stories.

The 65-piece Nevada County Concert Band presents its Pioneer Park Picnic Pops concert #2 of 4 “Summers of Love – Burning Band,” featuring big band, classic, jazz, folk, and popular music. Bring your family and friends to enjoy your picnic dinner on the grass, or treat yourself with goodies from the hot dog or ice cream vendors. The concert is free, accessible, and great for all ages.
Steely Dan Tribute Show
